A Far Eastern Air Transport McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registration B-28037 performing flight EF-25 frmo Taipei Sung Shan to Makung (Taiwan) with 165 people on board, landed on Makung's shortened runway 02 (threshold runway 20 displaced by 900 meters due to runway renovation works leaving 2100 meters landing distance available) in rain and northerly winds at about 10:42L (02:42Z) but overran the temporary end of the runway and came to a stop a few meters past the displaced end line. No injuries occurred, the aircraft sustained minor if any damage, a number of temporary runway end lights were damaged.

The airport was closed for about 70 minutes as result of the overrun until the aircraft was towed to the apron.

Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council rated the occurrence an accident and opened an investigation.

Following examination the incident aircraft was able to perform the return flight EF-28 with a delay of 4.5 hours.
