A Transaero Boeing 737-500, registration VP-BYO performing flight UN-401 from St. Petersburg (Russia) to Kiev Zhulhany (Ukraine), was on approach to Kiev when the crew stopped the descent at 5000 feet reporting a flaps asymmetry. After actioning the relevant checklists the crew decided to divert to Kiev's Borispol Airport for a safe landing at a higher than normal speed about 30 minutes later.

Rosaviatsia reported that while extending the flaps from 5 to 10 degrees the indications for left and right hand flaps started to disagree prompting the crew to reduce the flaps to 5 degrees again, after which the asymmetry disappeared.
