A Lufthansa Airbus A340-300, registration D-AIGV performing flight LH-436 from Dusseldorf (Germany) to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), completed a seemingly uneventful flight.

A post flight inspection however revealed the inboard left hand engine (CFM56) had ingested a bird resulting in damage to 4 fan blades.

Following repair of the engine the return flight LH-437 was able to depart with a delay of 27.5 hours and reached Dusseldorf with a delay of 27 hours.
