A US Airways Boeing 757-200, registration N202UW performing flight US-799 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Philadelphia,PA (USA), was enroute at FL350 about 650nm north of Lajes, Azores Islands (Portugal) when the crew reported problems with the right hand engine's (RB211) oil quantity, reduced the engine to idle, drifted down to FL175 and diverted to Lajes for a safe landing on runway 15 about 2 hours later.

A replacement Boeing 767-200 registration N250AY was dispatched from Philadelphia to Lajes, resumed the flight and reached Philadelphia with a delay of 16 hours.

On Jul 8th 2013 the Canadian TSB reported the crew noticed a low oil quantity indication, declared PAN and diverted to Lajes, keeping the engine running at idle thrust. Maintenance found an oil leak in the tower shaft seal, the seal was replaced.
