An American Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration N719AN performing flight AA-107 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was enroute at FL340 about 100nm westnorthwest of Cardiff,WL (UK) when the crew decided to return to London. The aircraft descended to FL200, dumped fuel and landed safely back on Heathrow Airport's runway 09L about 2 hours after departure.

A passenger tweeted the captain "was very coy" about the reasons for the precautionary return and only stated a mechanical fault as reason.

The airline reported a mechanical fault as cause of the return.

The aircraft was able to depart again after about 2 hours on the ground and reached New York with a delay of 4 hours.
