A TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200, registration PR-MYP performing flight JJ-3072 from Porto Alegre,RS to Brasilia,DF (Brazil), was in the initial climb out of Porto Alegre's runway 11 when the left hand engine ingested a bird causing the engine to emit a loud bang and streaks of flames. The crew levelled off at 4000 feet, shut the engine down and returned to Porto Alegre for a safe landing on runway 11 about 20 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration PR-MYA reached Brasilia with a delay of 2.5 hours.
