A Swift Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83 on behalf of Vueling, registration EC-LEY performing flight VY-3913 from Palma Mallorca,SP to Barcelona,SP (Spain), was climbing out of Palma Mallorca when an engine (JT8D) emitted a loud bang and caused a jolt throughout the aircraft. The crew shut the engine down and returned to Palma Mallorca for a safe landing about 15 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration EC-HHA reached Barcelona with a delay of 3 hours.

The airline confirmed an aircraft leased in from Swiftair had to return to Palma Mallorca due to an engine malfunction.
