An Air Wisconsin Canadair CRJ-200 on behalf of US Airways, registration N434AW performing flight ZW-3801/US-3801 from Portland,ME to Philadelphia,PA (USA) with 50 passengers and 3 crew, was enroute at FL280 about 30nm southwest of Boston,MA (USA) when the captain reported they had an obviously delusional male passenger (40) who had attempted to open the cabin door to the outside, the passenger had been moved to the rear of the aircraft, the cockpit door was secure, other passengers had subdued the unruly and were holding him down. The crew decided to divert to Boston for a safe landing on runway 04R about 15 minutes later. The aircraft subsequently taxied to the north cargo area where police took the unruly passenger into custody.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

Police reported the passenger was charged with interference with flight crew.

The unruly's family reported the man had a history of seizures and was taking medication. This was his first incident while travelling on business.
