A Sun Country Boeing 737-700, registration N710SY performing flight SY-266 from Washington National,DC to Lansing,MI (USA), was on approach to Lansing when the aircraft struck its wing onto the runway prompting the crew to go around and divert to Detroit,MI (USA), the crew requested emergency services on standby during the approach to Detroit and landed without further incident.

The FAA reported providing the time of landing at Detroit as occurrence time stamp, that the aircraft suffered a wing tip strike on landing and received damage, that needs to be assessed. There were no injuries.

On Apr 25th 2013 the airline reported that no wing tip strike occurred although the tower controller at Lansing had reported a wing tip strike, there was no damage to the aircraft. Upon questions submitted by The Aviation Herald why the crew diverted from Lansing to Detroit declaring emergency and requesting emergency services on stand by the airline replied "Our safety reports are confidential and proprietary company information". The airline said, they already had the FAA remove their report from the FAA database (editorial note: the FAA shows the entry updated however still reports the wing tip strike in their database, standing May 2nd 2013 20:00Z).
