An Emirates Airlines Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EDA performing flight EK-241 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was enroute at FL360 about 125nm northwest of Astrakhan (Russia) when the crew reported electrical problems and decided to return to Dubai. The aircraft descended to FL350 for the return leg and landed safely on runway 12L about 4 hours later.

The flight was cancelled.

Following repairs the incident aircraft was able to depart for the next day's flight EK-241 on schedule.

Russia's Rosaviatsia confirmed the aircraft returned to Dubai due to an electrical system problem that surfaced in the control zone of Rostov-on-Don.
