An Aeromexico Boeing 777-200, registration N745AM performing flight AM-98 (dep Mar 1st) from Tijuana (Mexico) to Shanghai Pudong (China) with 247 passengers, was enroute at FL300 about 50nm northeast of San Francisco,CA (USA) about one hour into the flight when the crew decided to return to Tijuana due to a bomb threat. The aircraft landed safely back in Tijuana about 90 minutes later.

A search of the aircraft, passengers and luggage found no traces of explosives.

The aircraft departed again after 3:15 hours on the ground in Tijuana, now with 245 passengers after two decided to not resume the journey, and reached Shanghai with a delay of 12 hours.

Mexican Authorities had received an anonymous phone call indicating that a direct flight from Tijuana to Shanghai carried a bomb to explode over the Pacific Ocean.
