A Westjet Boeing 737-800, registration C-FYBK performing flight WS-1433 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Edmonton,AB (Canada), was climbing out of Los Angeles when the crew received indications of low oil pressure for the left hand engine (CFM56) in the yellow band. After levelling off at FL340 the crew requested to return to Los Angeles and worked the related checklists. The oil temperature spiked into the red band prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft returned to Los Angeles for a safe landing on runway 24R about one hour after departure and taxied to the apron.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found a pool of oil underneath the left hand engine's integrated drive generator drain and found a damaged gearbox seal. Metal was found in the AGB/TGB screen, the starter was replaced. Debris was also found in the magnetic chip detector, the engine was replaced.

The aircraft returned to service on Apr 20th 2025.
