A Qantas Boeing 737-800, registration VH-VXI performing flight QF-505 from Brisbane,QL to Sydney,NS (Australia) with 127 passengers and 6 crew, was approaching Sydney and needed to enter a hold at FL240. Just exiting the hold the captain began to suffer from chest pain and requested cabin crew to prepare the defibrilator for him. The first officer took control of the aircraft while cabin crew prepared the pads of the defi on the captain. The aircraft landed safely on runway 34R about 25 minutes after exiting the hold. Cabin crew did not need to operate the defi, the captain was even able to taxi the aircraft to the apron. Paramedics met the aircraft and transported the captain to a hospital.

The airline reported the pilot experienced chest pains during the flight, the other pilot landed the aircraft into Sydney as normal. The pilot was treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital.
