An Aeropostal Douglas DC-9-50, registration YV139T performing flight VH-109 from Maracaibo to Caracas (Venezuela) with 104 passengers, was climbing out of Maracaibo when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine down and returned to Maracaibo for a safe landing 11 minutes after departure.

A replacement MD-82 registration YV445T reached Caracas with a delay of 5 hours.

The airline initially confirmed via Twitter the MD-80 returned to Maracaibo due to a minor fault of the right hand engine, a replacement MD-82 registration YV445T took the passengers to Caracas. In a later press release the airline reported a Douglas DC-9-50 registration YV139T returned to Maracaibo following an indication of a technical failure and landed safely 11 minutes after departure.
