How to Prepare for a Long Flight?
Last Update: October 17, 2024 / 13:26:41 GMT/Zulu time
A long flight from one part of the world to another may be exciting, but it’s a test for your body and mind. You have to stay inside the plane for hours, and there are minimum options for you to move. Moreover, you have to decide what you will do during the flight because sleeping can’t be the only option. You must think about time consumption and comfort, hunger, thirst, and other factors that cause discomfort. A research paper writer will probably spend hours writing and reviewing orders, but what about you? If you don’t have a plan for a long flight, don’t worry. This article will tell you how to prepare for it and what to do during the trip.
Book Tickets Early to Get Good Seats
Comfort equals success in terms of flights. People who don’t take long flights may not realize it because sitting for 2-3 hours is nothing. However, if you need to spend 7+ hours in a plane, it makes sense to have good spots. If you get a place near the window, you can watch the scenery or close it so the light won’t disturb you when sleeping.
Choosing places at the back of the plane is a good option when booking seats. People don’t like them due to personal reasons, so there’s a chance you will have an empty seat nearby. Nobody will make a noise, and you won’t see pets or children around.

Use the Flight Time to Sleep
In some cases, a flight is a thing that destroys your schedule, so you lose sleep for a few days or even a week. You can prevent it by adjusting your sleep pattern and adapting your schedule. For example, if the flight is during the night, it makes sense not to rest before takeoff. You can use the flight time to recover and feel good after landing. If you think that staying awake for 24 hours straight will help you keep the balance in your schedule, it’s a wrong idea. Your body will be tired, and you will be willing to rest all the time. Wait till night? It’s not a good plan.
Reduce Stress Before the Trip
Besides the fact that flight takes a lot of energy, it also brings a lot of stress to your body. The best decision in this case is to perform some activity that reduces stress and makes you feel more confident. For example, you can hit a gym, take a walk, or read a book right before going to the airport. The main idea is to relax and throw away bad thoughts.
Wear Comfortable Clothes and Bring Your Pillow
Get a hoodie instead of a jacket, and wear sneakers instead of shoes. Your body should feel warm and have no obstacles when moving. Bringing your pillow is also an advantage because you always have your neck in a comfortable position. When the plane lands, you won’t feel pain or other signs of discomfort. Think about it beforehand and purchase a travel pillow in a local store instead of buying it at the airport. You will save money but get the product with the same quality.
Prepare Something for Entertainment
If the flight happens during the day, you must do something to waste time. Of course, you can sleep more, but if you don’t want to ruin your schedule, the best option is to stay active. Watch Netflix, play games on a tablet or smartphone, or read a book. If you know you will be using devices, make sure they are charged so you will fulfill all your plans. Don’t work when you fly because you may lose focus too often, and the result won’t be appropriate. Instead, try to relax and feel comfortable during the flight. When you arrive, your mind will more likely focus on activities requiring attention.
Hydrate Yourself
When our body lacks liquid, it sends clear signals by slowing down some processes. Moreover, you will feel discomfort and thirst. Moreover, when you get on board, you will be offered to drink tea/coffee or alcohol, leading to a higher dehydration level. Consider having a bottle of water with you so you will keep the hydration level and avoid discomfort.
Don’t Eat Much Before the Flight
A light meal a few hours before the flight will be more than enough. If it’s a long flight, you will be offered a meal shortly after the takeoff, and it may even be a second meal during the flight. Also, having overpriced meals in airports is not a good idea, as you may pay a lot for a dish of questionable quality. You will rather pay for the appearance and presentation than taste; the best option is to eat at home before going to the airport.

Take Time for Self-Care After Landing
A long flight is a serious test for your body, as you will feel tired and sleepy after the arrival. Pack a small toolbag, have skincare tools, wash creams, toothpaste, and other belongings for such cases. Go to the restroom and take care of yourself. It will be enough to get to the place where you’ll stay. There, you will have more time to take a shower, shave, wash your hair, and do other procedures to be ready for the day.
Don’t Take Too Much in the Luggage
Despite it being a long flight, it doesn’t mean you should take all your wardrobe with you (unless you move to another country to live). Take only the most important things and pack your bags smart. In most cases, people only need a backpack to travel. What should be in your bag for a flight?
-
Chargers
-
Snacks
-
Gum
-
Book
-
Laptop/tablet (optional)
-
Travel pillow
-
Bottle for water
-
Clothing
-
Compression socks
Final Thoughts

For example, you will know that picking tickets beforehand is a must if you want to have a comfortable flight. Also, you will understand what to take with you on a flight and what should not be taken instead.
