An Air India Express Boeing 737-800, registration VT-AYB performing flight IX_613 from Tiruchirappalli (India) to Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) with 141 people on board, was climbing out of Tiruchirappalli's runway 09 when the crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet and entered a hold due to being unable to retract the landing gear as result of a hydraulic failure. The aircraft returned to Tiruchirappalli for a safe landing on runway 27 about 2.5 hours later.

The aircraft is still on the ground about 12 hours after landing back.

India's DGCA reported they have been instructed to conduct a thorough examination of the aircraft to determine the causes of the hydraulic failure.
