A Sunexpress Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration TC-SMD performing flight XQ-9282 from Izmir to Diyarbakir (Turkey), was climbing out of Izmir's runway 16L when the crew stopped the climb at FL120 reporting control issues. The aircraft entered a hold and subsequently returned to Izmir for a safe landing on runway 16L about 65 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration TC-SEI reached Diyarbakir with a delay of about 3.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Izmir about 77 hours (3 days 5 hours) later.

According to information The Aviation Herald received the elevator was jammed.

The airline reported the elevator was not jammed but restricted stating, that this makes an important difference.
