A Smartlynx Airlines Malta Airbus A320-200, registration 9H-SLI performing flight 6E-2235 from Delhi to Varanasi (India), was enroute when the cabin became hot having passengers first try to cool down using inflight magazins as fans, which proved insufficient to avoid serious discomfort. The aircraft continued to Varanasi for a safe landing about 70 minutes after departure.

The airline apologized: "The discomfort was attributed to fluctuations in cabin temperature, which were adjusted in response to passenger requests. Our cabin crew promptly extended assistance to the affected passengers". The air conditioning itself was working effectively.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Varanasi for about 80 minutes, then departed for the return flight with a delay of about 70 minutes (also due to late arrival into Varanasi about 30 minutes behind schedule).
