A Spirit Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N651NK performing flight NK-496 from Nashville,TN to Los Angeles,CA (USA), was climbing out of Nashville's runway 20C when the aircraft encountered hail causing a cracked windshield. The aircraft stopped the climb at about FL150 and entered a hold to burn off fuel before returning to Nashville for a safe landing on runway 31 about 130 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED HAIL AND CRACKED THE WINSHIELD, NASHVILLE, TN.", and rated the damage minor.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Nashville until Sep 3rd 2024, then positioned to Dallas Ft. Worth and is still on the ground in Dallas about 19.5 hours after landing.
