A San Marino Aviation Airbus A330-300 on behalf of Garuda Indonesia, registration T7-MMM performing positioning flight GA6239 from Surakarta (Indonesia) to Madinah (Saudi Arabia) with 14 crew, was enroute at FL340 about 180nm westnorthwest of Surakarta when the crew needed to shut the left hand engine (Trent 772) down. The aircraft, while turning back to Surakarta, drifted down to FL100 and landed safely on Surakarta's runway 26 about 80 minutes after departure and stopped on the runway. Attending emergency services reported smoke from the left hand engine. The aircraft was evacuated. One flight attendant received injuries. The aircraft was subsequently towed to the apron.

The airport reported the aircraft returned due to a technical issue, the aircraft carried only 14 crew and no passengers after having delivered Hajj pilgrims back home and flying to Madina to pick up the next group.

The aircraft returned to service on Jul 25th 2024.

On Mar 14th 2025 Germany's BFU reported they are supporting the investigation by a foreign investigation authority because the engine was designed in Germany. During cruise increased vibrations occurred on the left hand engine and multiple warnings were displayed. After landing flames occurred on the left hand engine, the crew carried out an emergency evacuation, one flight attendant received injuries during the evacuation.
