A Sun Express Boeing 737-800, registration TC-SUU performing flight XQ-7617 from Van to Antalya (Turkey), was climbing out of Van's runway 21 when the left hand engine (CFM56) emitted a series of bangs and streaks of flame prompting the crew to stop the climb at FL130 and return to Van for a safe landing on runway 03 about 30 minutes after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Van about 25 hours after landing back.
