The airline reported a horrific accident happened when a person ended up in an engine of flight KL-1341.
The DSB announced three investigators have been dispatched on site of the accident.
A ground observer reported the aircraft had been fully pushed back onto the taxiway, the left hand engine had been started during push back when the aircraft was already clear of the gate and completely on the taxiway. The crew had already received the "all clear" signal when the person was ingested into the left hand engine.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Amsterdam.
On May 30th 2024 Koninklijke Marechaussee, Royal Military Police, announced:
An incident occurred on the tarmac at Schiphol on Wednesday afternoon in which a man fell into the running engine of an aircraft and died. The aircraft had just completed the pushback procedure and was about to taxi to the runway.
The deceased man has been identified. The victim worked at a company at the airport. Investigation showed that he deliberately climbed into the engine. This is a case of suicide. Out of compassion for the victim and the surviving relatives, we will not make any further announcements.
