The FAA reported the aircraft returned due to a pressurization issue.
The airline reported the crew received indication of a possible loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft landed landed, there never was a loss of cabin pressure. A replacement aircraft delivered the passengers to Rome.
A passenger reported they descended rapidly, a short time later the captain, audibly on oxygen mask, made some announcement that could not be understood.
A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N78001 reached Rome with a delay of 6:15 hours.
On Sep 21st 2023 the Canadian TSB reported the crew received a cabin altitude warning and performed an emergency descent. The TSB stated: "Maintenance found ice in the ground air connection. The ground air connection duct valve was also found to be broken, not seated. The ground air check valve and associated gasket were replaced."
