An Air France Boeing 777-300, registration F-GSQM performing flight AF-702 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire), was enroute at FL330 about 65nm westsouthwest of Algiers (Algeria) when the crew decided to turn around, climbed the aircraft to FL340, dumped fuel over the Mediterranean Sea and diverted to Toulouse (France) for a normal approach and safe landing about 70 minutes after turning around.

Passengers reported the aircraft was about to enter the Sahara region when the aircraft turned around, the crew announced an engine (GE90) malfunction required them to return to Paris. About 30 minutes later the crew made another announcement that the malfunction was more important that initially thought and made it impossible to return to Paris, they would now divert to Toulouse.
