An Austrian Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration OE-LBO performing flight OS-173 from Vienna (Austria) to Hamburg (Germany), had just levelled off at FL360 about 20nm northeast of Prague when the crew declared emergency and initiated an emergency descent to FL100 due to the loss of cabin pressure. After levelling off at FL100 about 7 minutes later (average rate of descent 3700 fpm) the aircraft continued to Hamburg for a safe landing on runway 05 about 55 minutes after leaving FL360.

Czechia's UZPLN reported the crew declared Mayday at FL360 and set the emergency code on their transponder reporting an "overpressure" problem. The aircraft was cleared to FL100 and continued to Hamburg. The cause was a fault in the control unit of the pressurization and air conditioning system.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Hamburg for about 2:45 hours, then departed for the return flight to Vienna.
