An Albastar Boeing 737-800, registration EC-MUB performing flight AP-3975 from Verona (Italy) to Marsa Alam (Egypt), was enroute at FL310 about 70nm northeast of Rome (Italy) when the crew initiated an emergency descent, the passenger oxygen masks were released, due to the loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft levelled off at FL130 about 6 minutes later (average rate of descent 3000 fpm), subsequently descended to FL100 and diverted to Rome Fiumicino for a safe landing on runway 16L about 30 minutes after leaving FL310.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Rome about 48 hours after landing.
