A Lufthansa Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter, registration D-ALCF performing flight GEC-8265 from Rio de Janeiro Galeao,RJ (Brazil) to Dakar (Senegal), was enroute at FL330 over the Atlantic Ocean about 220nm east of Salvador,BA (Brazil) when the first officer became sick and was unable to continue duties. The captain decided to return to Rio de Janeiro Galeao Airport for a safe landing about 2:20 hours later.

Germany's BFU reported in their monthly bulletin that the first officer received medical assistance after landing.

The aircraft departed Rio de Janeiro again about 17 hours after first departure.
