A National Jet Systems Boeing 717-200 on behalf of Qantas, registration VH-YQT performing flight QF-1503 from Sydney,NS to Canberra,AC (Australia), was climbing out of Sydney's runway 16R when the crew stopped the climb at 10,000 feet reporting an unsual smell in the cockpit and decided to return to Sydney. The aircraft landed safely on Sydney's runway 16R about 18 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Sydney about 57 hours after landing back.
