A Jetblue Airbus A320-200, registration N709JB performing flight B6-721 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Nassau (Bahamas), departed JFK's runway 31L when the crew reported they had hit a pretty large bird at about 500 to 700 feet above ground, which probably fell onto the runway, and recommended a runway inspection. The crew continued the climb but stopped the climb at FL200 after talking to operations and decided to return to JFK for a safe overweight landing on runway 31R about 35 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was able to depart again after about 90 minutes after landing and is estimated to reach Nassau with a delay of 2 hours.
