A Lufthansa Airbus A321-200, registration D-AIDU performing flight LH-1754 from Munich (Germany) to Athens (Greece), rejected takeoff from Munich's runway 26L at low speed (about 40 knots) and vacated the runway via taxiway B11 about 1200 meters/4000 feet down the runway.

A replacement Airbus A321-200 registration D-AIDP reached Athens with a delay of 80 minutes.

A passenger reported the crew accelerated the engines about half the way, after 5-10 seconds the engines were accelerated to full takeoff power. The aircraft had moved a couple of hundred meters when the tail of the aircraft made a very strong sideward movement to the right followed by a movement to the left, about 5 seconds later the engines spooled down and the brakes brought the aircraft down to taxi speed. The aircraft continued to roll for about 500 meters at taxi speed before turning off the runway and stopping on the adjacent taxiway. The captain announced that there had been a problem with one of the engines (V2533) and they would need to return to the terminal. After reaching the terminal the captain faced the passengers in the cabin and again stated via the PA that there had been a problem with an engine. The flight departed on a replacement aircraft with the same crew about 90 minutes later.
