Locals reported at the time of the landing there was a storm and heavy rain. The runway had been paved with asphalt 33 years ago but had never been repaired since. The aircraft came to a stop about 200 meters past the end of the runway close to a private house.
This is the second runway excursion of the aircraft within 15 months, see also Incident: Kasai AN26 at Lodja on Jan 17th 2022, runway excursion on landing.
On Oct 22nd 2025 Ukraine's NBAAI reported there was a sudden change of weather characterized by nimbostratus clouds (layered rain clouds) when the aircraft was about 34.5nm out. The aircraft landed at 118 KIAS and overran the runway by 172 meters after a landing roll of 1167 meters. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. The BPEA of DR Congo concluded the probable causes of the accident were:
a sudden change in weather conditions (nimbostratus) and as result an excessively long rollout distance on the runway.
Following findings:
- Air Kasai did not provide the necessary documentation because their air operator's certificate and their insurance policy had been suspended.
-The aircraft's airworthiness certificate ending Dec 23rd 2023 was forged, the aircraft was not airworthy.
- 300 hour maintenance had been performed on the aircraft.
- flight crew certificates were valid and their type ratings were up to date.
- the aircraft had not been maintained according to the manufacturer's maintenance programme.
- The aerodrome's meteorologic station was inoperative due to lack of qualified personnel
- the runway was not equipped with navigation aids
- air traffic control services were not provided
- the runway was wet and had numerous potholes
- the aircraft touched down 433 meters past the runway threshold 05
- the aircraft was unable to stop within the runway
- the aircraft came to a halt 172 meters past the runway end
