A Mordovia Airlines Antonov AN-24, registration RA-46640 performing flight PM-9527 from Krasnodar to Saransk (Russia) with 29 passengers and 6 crew, went off the left hand edge of the runway by about 30 meters and came to a stop on soft ground during landing.

Rosaviatsia reported the airport was closed for about 4 hours until the aircraft was towed back to the apron. The friction coefficient of the runway was determined at 0.35.

A replacement aircraft continued the charter flight carrying an ice hockey team to the final destination Kazan, where the team ultimately won their match despite the "nightmare", as the team wrote on their website.

No Metars are available for Saransk, the local weatherstation reported light snowfall at temperatures of -5 degrees C, dew point -7 degrees C, humidity 77% and light winds (3.6kph, 2 knots) from east at the time of the occurrence.
