A Delta Airlines Boeing 717-200, registration N925AT performing flight DL-2481 from Charlotte,NC to Detroit,MI (USA), was departing runway 36C when tower observed a fuel loss from the aircraft. The aircraft climbed out, a massive fuel leak was observed from the right hand wing, stopped the climb at 4000 feet and returned to Charlotte for a safe landing on runway 36L while ATC cancelled approach clearances to runway 36L for all other approaches. The aircraft landed safely about 10 minutes after departure.

Runways 36C and 36L were closed following the occurrence, the FAA reported the airport was down to one runway only causing delays of up to 2 hours.
