NAV Canada reported that according to ground radar the aircraft exited the runway at the left side near taxiway P, the flight crew however never communicated the aircraft had left the runway surface. Tower had been reported instead that the crew was unable to vacate the runway at H3 due to a steering problem.
The Canadian TSB reported that after the aircraft came to a stop an exterior inspection revealed no significant damage to the aircraft which was subsequently taxied to the gate. Maintenance replaced the nosewheel steering control unit and the #1 and #3 tyres. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders were acquired for further assessment.
