A Norwegian Air Sweden Boeing 737-800, registration SE-RRE performing flight DY-5359 from Gothenburg (Sweden) to Alicante,SP (Spain) carrying the soccer team of IFK Gothenburg amongst their passengers, was climbing out of Gothenburg when the crew stopped the climb at FL120 and decided to divert to Copenhagen (Denmark) after learning the soccer team had brought along several dozen of soccer balls, which had been loaded in the cargo bays, causing the crew to be concerned the pressure differential might cause those balls to burst. The aircraft landed safely in Copenhagen about 50 minutes after departure from Gothenburg.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Copenhagen for about one hour, then continued the flight and reached Alicante with a delay of about 95 minutes.

A player of IFK Gothenburg reported the captain became aware of the balls in the cargo during climb out and told the passengers in what the captain named an "odd announcement", that they had about 30 balls on board, he was concerned the pressure differential might cause those balls to burst and cause damage, hence they were diverting to Copenhagen. After landing all air would be released from those balls and they'd continue. After a review of the now uninflated footballs by the captain himself the aircraft continued to Spain.
