A PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N702PS performing flight AA-5359 from Jackson,MS to Washington National,DC (USA) with 51 people on board, was climbing out of Jackson's runway 34R when the crew stopped the climb at 13,000 feet declaring Mayday Mayday reporting they were losing fuel. The crew queried for any closer airport than Jackson, however, Jackson was the closest. The crew requested to go straight back to the airport taking as close as a final possible and advising they were keeping the aircraft higher. During the descent the crew advised the fuel quantity stabilized, but they were not taking any chances. The aircraft landed safely on runway 16L about 19 minutes after departure and taxied to the apron.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 7 hours, then positioned to Norfolk,VA (USA), remained on the ground in Norfolk for another 7.5 hours and resumed service.
