A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration N421LV performing flight WN-1979 from Columbus,OH to Chicago Midway,IL (USA), was climbing out of Columbus' runway 28L when the aircraft received a bird strike. In the absence of abnormal indications the crew continued the flight, climbed to FL280 and landed safely on Chicago Midway's runway 31C about 50 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT STRUCK BIRDS ON DEPARTURE, COLUMBUS, OH." and rated the occurrence an incident.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Chicago about 51.5 hours after landing.

According to information The Aviation Herald received, two dozen small birds were found on the departure runway in Columbus, however, could not be attributed to the aircraft initially until N421LV had landed at Midway Airport and reported damage with the radome and horizontal stabilizer in addition to indications of a possible engine ingestion.
