A KLM Boeing 737-800, registration PH-BCE performing flight KL-1962 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Amsterdam (Netherlands), was climbing out of Zurich's runway 28 when the crew stopped the climb at about 10,000 feet and declared emergency reporting problems with the stabilizer trim and resulting control problems. The crew managed to revert to manual trim control for the remainder of the flight and returned to Zurich for a landing on runway 16. On approach to Zurich the crew reported that the aircraft was "now under control" and downgraded their emergency call to a PAN PAN. On short final descending through about 50 feet the aircraft also suffered a bird strike, but continued for a safe landing. While the aircraft was taxiing to the apron emergency services observed a leak from the aircraft and took positions to be able to fight a possible (brakes ignited) fire immediately. The passengers disembarked safely.

On Nov 4th 2022 the Swiss SUST reported they are currently looking into the occurrence to determine, whether this needs to be rated a serious incident. If the occurrence becomes rated a serious incident, an investigation will be opened.
