An Air Canada Boeing 777-300, registration C-FIVQ performing flight AC-105 from Toronto,ON to Vancouver,BC (Canada) with 419 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 90nm eastsoutheast of Thunder Bay,ON (Canada) when the crew began to suspect a fuel leak and consulted with dispatch and maintenance. The crew subsequently decided to return to Toronto, declared PAN PAN and dumped fuel at FL190. The crew also continued with the checklists to re-balance the fuel (left tank 4000kg low) and continued for a safe landing back in Toronto about 2 hours after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported replaced the fuel quantity processing unit (FQPU) and tested the systems with engine runs at 80% N1 for 30 minutes with the cross feed valve closed with no anomaly. However, when the cross feed valve was opened, maintenance found the fuel was slowly transferred to the right hand tank. More troubleshooting is still on going.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 46 hours before returning to service.
