A British Airways Boeing 747-400, registration G-CIVZ performing flight BA-177 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 276 people on board, was contacting New York approach, when the controller assigned runway 04R. The crew requested runway 04L due to an operational requirement as result of leaving Heathrow on minimum equipment list with a minor brakes defect, and was assigned to runway 04L, the crew did not request any assistance. Tower however ordered emergency vehicles on standby for the arrival. The aircraft landed safely on runway 04L, the crew advised no assistance was needed.
