A Delta Airlines Bombardier C-Series 100, registration N126DU performing flight DL-2953 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Minneapolis,MN (USA), was cleared to line up Chicago's runway 10L at taxiway DD (TODA 3070 meters/10,000 feet), taxied onto the runway and turned into opposite direction for runway 28R (TODA 890 meters/2920 feet). While the aircraft turned right onto the runway tower cleared the aircraft for takeoff and turn left to a heading of 360, then added "you are turning the wrong way, you need to depart the other way". The crew confirmed "we are turning around", after the aircraft had turned around by 180 degrees now lined up in the correct position the crew verified they were still cleared for takeoff and departed. The aircraft continued to Minneapolis for a safe landing without further incident.
