A Gol Transportes Aereos Boeing 737-800, registration PR-GZU performing flight G3-1521 from Fortaleza,CE to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil) with 179 passengers and 6 crew, departed Fortaleza's runway 13 when the right hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird prompting the crew to stop the climb at 5000 feet and return to Fortaleza. While on final approach to Fortaleza's runway 13 about 80 minutes later, when the aircraft received another bird strike. The aircraft continued a safe landing.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 28 hours before returning to service.

Brazil's CENIPA reported the aircraft sustained minor damage, the occurrence was rated an incident.
