An Aviacon Zitotrans Ilyushin IL-76, registration RA-76846 performing flight ZR-6503 from Chateauroux (France) to an unknown destination with 5 crew, was climbing out of Chateauroux when about 12 minutes into the flight the operation of the #4 engine (D30KP) became unstable and the crew shut the engine down, entered a hold to dump fuel and returned to Chateauroux for a safe landing about 2:45 hours after departure.

Rosaviatsia reported the engine operation became unstable with the high pressure compressor running down associated with loss of thrust. The engine no longer reacted to throttle inputs. The crew therefore shut the engine down.
