An Aramco Boeing 737-800, registration N803XA performing a flight from Arar to Al Wajh (Saudi Arabia), was cleared to land on Al Wajh's runway 15 but landed on the parallel taxiway A, formerly runway 15T.

Saudi Arabia's AAIB reported CVR and FDR have been pulled and read out after landing. The flight crew lacked knowledge and/or understanding of the relevant NOTAMs. Runway 15 has been closed at the time and taxiway A had been temporarily assigned runway 15T. However, runway 15 had been returned to service, runway 15T was returned to become taxiway A only and the RNAV approach to runway 15T had been cancelled. The crew however performed the RNAV approach to runway 15T. The AIB also observed deficiencies in the pre-flight briefing by the dispatcher.

According to the NOTAMs the temporary runway (15T) was in use until and including Feb 16th 2019 14:00Z, then the main runway returned to service from and including Feb 16th 2019 14:01Z, 10 days prior to the occurrence.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Al Wajh for about 12 hours before returning to service.
