An Egyptair Airbus A320-200, registration SU-GBA performing flight MS-610 from Cairo (Egypt) to Kuwait City (Kuwait) with 91 passengers, was enroute over the Red Sea near Hurghada (Egypt) when a snake bit a passenger prompting the crew to divert the aircraft to Hurghada for a safe landing. The bitten passenger was taken to a hospital.

The aircraft reached Kuwait with 90 passengers and no snake on board and with a delay of 4.5 hours.

The bitten passenger had carried the snake with him in a bag concealed by his clothes and had such managed to pass security with the snake. In flight the snake managed to escape the bag. It is suspected the man attempted to smuggle the snake to Kuwait.

Western media, other than Arabic/Egyptian media which do not specify the species of the snake and do not report the fate of the snake except that it was confiscated by Authorities, reported the snake as poisonous with many stating it was a cobra, that was trampled to death by other passengers.
