An American Airlines Boeing 787-8, registration N818AL performing flight AA-940 from Santiago (Chile) to Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) with 149 people on board, was climbing out of Santiago when the crew advised they were troubleshooting an issue and requested to level off at FL110. The aircraft entered a hold. About 20 minutes later the crew advised they needed to return to Santiago due to a problem with the slats and positioned for an approach to Santiago's runway 17L about 45 minutes after departure.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 14 hours, then departed again and is currently estimated to reach Dallas with a delay of 14:40 hours.
