An Azul Linhas Aereas Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration PR-AQK performing flight AD-4248 from Belo Horizonte,MG to Barreiras,BA (Brazil), was on approach to Barreiras' runway 08 when the crew initiated a go around due to an unsafe gear indication. The crew entered a hold to work the related checklists and subsequently decided to divert to Brasilia,DF (Brazil), located about 275nm southwest of Barreiras, due to the longer and more runways as well as better facilities available there. The aircraft climbed to FL160 for the diversion. On approach to Brasilia's runway 11L the crew used the alternate extension to lower the landing gear, tower reported all gear appeared to be down and in position and the crew continued for a safe landing on runway 11L about 90 minutes after the go around.

The airline reported the aircraft diverted to Brasilia for "unscheduled maintenance". All necessary assistance as required was provided to the passengers.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 17 hours, then positioned to Sao Paulo Viracopos,SP (Brazil) as flight AD-9800, reaching a maximum FL110 and about 180 knots over ground (rather than 260 knots over ground as the previous day during normal operation).

On Apr 15th 2021 Brazil's CENIPA reported the crew received indication that the landing gear was not down. The crew decided to divert to Brasilia without declaring emergency or requesting priority, performed the relevant checklist procedures and landed without further incident. The occurrence was rated an incident.
