A Lufthansa Airbus A340-600, registration D-AIHA performing flight LH-712 from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Seoul (South Korea), was enroute at FL350 over the Ural Mountains about 800nm east of Moscow (Russia) when the captain, who was taking his rest at that time, became sick and needed medical attention, which was provided on board. The two senior first officers on board decided to return to Frankfurt for a safe landing about 4.5 hours after turning around.

Germany's BFU reported in their August bulletin released in November that an investigation into the serious incident has been initiated.
