A Trip Linhas Aereas Avion de Transport Regional ATR-42-500, registration PR-TTK performing a ferry flight from Ipatinga,MG to Belo Horizonte,MG (Brazil) with 2 crew, was in the initial climb through about 400 feet AGL out of Ipatinga when the right hand engine failed prompting the crew to stop the climb and join a downwind to Ipatinga to return to the aerodrome. While on downwind the left hand engine's torque and other parameters showed variations and the engine was shut down, too. The crew managed to glide the aircraft onto the runway but blew a number of tyres on landing.

Runway 05/23 (length 2005m/6580 feet) was closed until the aircraft could be towed off the runway about 4 hours later.

On Nov 6th 2012 the French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin quoting Brazilian Authorities, that the right hand engine failed in the initial climb at about 400 feet, the left hand engine showed variations in torque and parameters while on downwind and the crew shut it down, the BEA however annotated that a commanded shut down has not yet been confirmed. The aircraft touched down on the runway but blew a number of tyres causing the runway to be closed for some time.

On Mar 30th 2013 the NTSB reported that the crew proceeded to shut down the left hand engine when it failed on the downwind leg.
