A Swiss Boeing 777-300, registration HB-JNI performing flight LX-40 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Los Angeles,CA (USA), had departed Zurich's runway 16 and landed on Los Angeles' runway 25L completing a seemingly uneventful flight.

A post flight inspection revealed evidence of a bird strike, the aircraft was unable to depart for the return flight. The return flight LX-41 was cancelled as result.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 25 hours, then positioned to Zurich as flight LX-5041. The aircraft returned to service after another about 26 hours on the ground in Zurich.
